In Year 10 students will study:

GCSE:

Exam board: OCR

  • Medicine through Time: Illness, pain and disease: development study: Medicine from prehistory to the modern day: focusing on what caused disease: how they tried to make people better: how did they try and prevent disease?
  •  American West 1845-1890: depth study: the Plains Indians and their struggle to survive on the Great Plains: migration West in the 1840s and the story of the Mormons: law and order including gunfights and Billy the Kid: the life of cowboys – myth and reality: the cattle industry: the struggle for the Plains – Crazy Horse, Custer and the Battle of the Little Bighorn
  • Medicine Through Time and the American West are examined by a 2 hour and 1 1/2 hour exam  at the end of the course.
  • Northern Ireland: why have Catholics and Protestants been in conflict with each other?

This will be assessed by two exams and one piece of controlled assessment
