Art and Design Year 7

In year 7 our aim is to provide our students an exciting, creative 

Project 1: Gargoyles and extensive art experience. The curriculum 

has been planned to allow students to develop their knowledge and understanding of the formal elements as well as, essential and vital skills, techniques and processes that not only equip them in the art department but also whole academy.

This is an exciting project that allows the students to see how their drawings and design work can be transformed into a 3D form. During this project the students will develop the following skills:

  •       Develop understanding of the link between drawing and sculpture
  •       Develop drawing and printing skills
  •      Develop awareness of shape and form in 2D and3D
  •       Increase understanding and use of proportion
  •       Develop skills using 3D 
    materials
  •       Understand and exploit the properties of clay
  •       Respect health and safety in the classroom when using clay
Project 2: Landscapes

Students will use their knowledge and understanding from project 1 as a starting point in project 2. They will be inspired by the work of Van Gogh to develop a vibrant and expressive painting style, working both individually, and within a group to produce a large collaborative landscape.

During this project the students will develop the following skills:

  •       A series of landscapes showing an understanding of colour
  •       Develop understanding of colour, tone and perspective
  •       A series of landscapes showing a development of painting technique and style inspired by Vincent Van Gogh
  •       A collaborative landscape    

Project 3: Architecture

In this project students will further develop their knowledge, understanding and application of the formal elements. They will focus on developing their use of shape, texture and perspective. During this project the students will develop the following skills:

  •       Produce a series of 2D work inspired by a variety of architecture styles
  •       Develop an understanding of shape, texture and perspective
  •       Increase knowledge and understanding of different architecture styles
  •       Create a relief freeze using a variety of materials
      
Art and Design Year 8

In year 8 our aim is to give our students the opportunity to expand on the skills and techniques learnt in year 7. In year 8 students are encouraged to be a lot more independent and take more risks.

Project 1: Pop Art

Students are introduced to the world of Pop Art with particular focus on Warhol and Lichenstien. They use self portraiture as their subject matter and recreate themselves in the Pop Art style.  During this project the students will develop the following skills:  

  • Apply their knowledge and understanding of colour
  • Increase their knowledge and understanding of the Pop Art movement
  • Develop drawing and painting skills

Project 2: Interesting Architecture

In this project students will further develop their knowledge, understanding and application of the formal elements. They will focus on developing their use of shape, texture, colour and perspective. During this project the students will develop the following skills:

  • Develop drawing styles and exploring a wide range of techniques to apply textures and tone
  • Develop painting skills using watercolours and pen
  • Increase knowledge and understanding of the work of Antonio Gaudi
  • Develop awareness of shape and form in 2D and 3D
  • Increase understanding and use of proportion and perspective
Project 3: Surrealism

In this project students will further develop their knowledge, understanding and application of the formal elements. They will use surrealist art to create their own imaginative and interesting surrealist landscapes. During this project the students will develop the following skills: 

  • Develop drawing and collage styles to explore the surrealist art movement
  • Develop painting skills using acrylic
  • Increase knowledge and understanding of the work of Salvador Dali
  • Increase understanding and use of proportion and perspective 

Project 4: Old and New

In this project students will explore the world of colour in much more depth and use this to create their own graffiti art with purpose. They will also use myths and legends to create imagery to support their previous work. During this project the students will develop the following skills:

  •       A series of works showing a more advanced understanding of colour
  •       To use graphics to develop understanding of colour, tone and scale
  •       A series of drawings exploring myths and legends using a range of media
